Systems Integration Best Practices
Integration is a data-integrity problem before it is a technical one. Decide where each record lives, then move it automatically. These practices keep the connections reliable.
Choose one source of truth per data type
Decide where the customer record, the invoice, and the project each live. Every other system reads or syncs from that source. Two sources of truth is how the numbers drift apart.
Prefer native and API connections over copy-paste
Use the built-in integrations and APIs first. Where none exist, an automation platform can move the data. What matters is that no human is re-entering it by hand.
Handle failures and retries explicitly
Connections break: a token expires, a field changes, an endpoint rate-limits. Every sync needs a retry policy and an alert, so a silent failure does not become a silent data gap.
Log and monitor the syncs
If you cannot see that data stopped flowing, the integration has already failed quietly. Watch the syncs the way you watch uptime.
